Highfield Park is located in the South East side of St Albans, click here for a map. The Park is split into three areas with a network of permissive paths. The Tree Trail leaflet shows the paths and main attractions in the Park. It is a useful guide for those visiting the Park for the first time. The leaflet can be picked up from Charters Health Club. Travelling by train St Albans is on Thameslink with trains every 20 minutes from central London. It is 2 miles to the Park – via Camp Rd or you may take a taxi or an S2/S7 bus to Camp Road/Drakes Drive junction. Travelling by bikeThe Trust permits cycling on a permissive basis using the tarmaced paths. There are cycle racks at Charters Heath Club. The Alban Way, a trail for cyclists and walkers using a former railway line runs between Hatfield and St Albans and passes the Park. Leave the Alban Way at the Hill End Lane junction and cycle down Hixberry Lane. The entrance to the park is on your right. Disability Access At some of the access points it has been necessary to install kissing gates. The Trust is in the process of upgrading its access points into the Park for users of wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The first of these has been installed at the Russet Drive access point ajacent to the Highfield Park Centre. To gain access you will need a "RADAR" Key, which can be obtained free of charge from St. Albans Council offices. Walking your Dog The Park is a popular place for dog walking. We request that dogs are kept under control and that dog mess is picked up and disposed of in the bins provided. FREE dog mess bags are available from the Park Office. If you lose your dog in the Park or find a stray dog please contact the St Albans Council Dog Warden telephone 01727 866100. Please also contact the Trust. |
